Being born and raised in India, I grew up wanting to become a computer scientist. To actually be able to have machines at your disposal, to make them solve problems, it thrills me. For me, studying computer science is not so much of a challenge as it is fun. It is exciting. It is kind of an academic nirvana. Further, it has always topped my list of career goals. Being a bright student, more often than not I topped my class. I aimed at getting into one of the top universities, which I did. My current undergrad school, where I just finish my freshman year, BITS Pilani, is consistently ranked among the top five in India. However without me consciously realizing, my thoughts about higher education evolved and matured during my multiple visits to the USA.
I visited the States in 2007, 12 years old and bubbling with excitement. It was summer vacation and we visit a lot of places in several states, I was in awe and I started seeing things differently. I visited my cousins’ schools and found the atmosphere very warm and friendly, at the same time catalyzing over all education. I visited America again in 2009 and planned to do my undergrad in India and after that do my grad school here.
