The QCCs are individual assignments that you will submit via the provided Turnitin links on Module pages. QCCs are not the same thing as a Discussion Posts. A QCC is like a mini-essay that is between 3 and 4 paragraphs in which you discuss whatever you want about the readings in the associated Module. (You may also discuss any films and other videos from the course, but they don’t take the place of the readings; you must show that you read and understood the primary course materials for the QCCs – the readings.)

Assignments

You must submit two QCC (Questions, Comment, Connection) assignments for this course.

Due dates for the QCCs can be seen in the Modules themselves. These assignments are spaced out throughout the semester, so check them now so you can plan your semester work accordingly.

Expectations for the sections of the QCC are as follows:

You will begin your post with a Question prompted by the readings. This can be a question you have about the readings, or any concept within them. It must be your own question, and you should write at least a couple of sentences setting the context for the question, or speculating on the answer from the course texts.

You will then make a Comment on what you’ve seen of the ideas or concepts in the readings and/or videos in society in general (which can include media, your everyday life – whatever you want to say about one or more of the concepts.) Your comment does not have to be related to your question, but it can be if you want.

Finally, you will make a Connection between the two readings and/or a reading and a video (and their concepts.) If you’ve only done one Module so far in the course, obviously, you have to use course materials from that Module, but one you’ve covered multiple Modules, feel free to link materials from different Modules together.

Make sure you pay careful attention to which Module(s) each QCC response is expected to address (hint: it’s actually in the title of the QCC.)

You may be writing “QCC – Modules 1 and 2” after you’ve already started the material for Module 3, but that does not mean you should write about Module 3 content. (This may seem obvious, but people forget this all the time and write their QCC on incorrect content.)

You must appropriately title each section of your QCC (one section for “Question”, one for “Comment” and one for “Connection”) so it’s very clear that you’ve addressed all the requirements for the assignment.

You may do this with either actual titles for each section, or by putting the terms in bold or underlining them in your text if you don’t wish to break-up the “flow” or your essay.

Either method is fine, just as long as it’s very clear which section is which.

If the sections are not clear to your instructor, she may not be able to tell if you have all the required parts of the assignment, and you could end up losing points.

An example of an “A+” QCC is provided in Module 0, so make sure you take a look at it so you can see the expectations for a perfect score on this assignment.

QCCs take the longest to grade, as you often get feedback on them from the instructor (especially if you don’t get a high grade.) Generally, the QCCs will be graded within the standard, college two-week turn-around window you’ll find in most of your classes.

The QCCs are worth 40% of your grade in the course! (So do them!)
