QUESTIONS.
- Which are some of the critics that Anthropology has developed around psychiatric approaches to Mental Health?
- Which are some anthropological contributions to improve the mental health field?
- Discuss three main ideas argued by Janis Jenkins to approach the understanding of mental health conditions.
- According to Tanya Luhrmann, why is it relevant to analyze the cultural contexts of people with mental illness conditions?
- Based on the studies discussed in class, what is the role that religion/spirituality could play in mental health treatments?
After selecting the three questions:
a. Elaborate an integrated essay based on the readings discussed in class.
b. Develop arguments that help you to articulate the discussion among the three questions addressed in the essay.
c. Cite at least three sources of information from the syllabus (additionally, you can also include academic sources out of the syllabus).
Just use the readings for the answers and you just need to reply 3 of the questions. The readings are references for the questions, so cite them when you are using them.
RUBRIC.
Introduction. 10 points
The writer’s central objective is readily apparent to the reader—state clear which questions you will be addressing in the essay.
Body. 70 points
The arguments developed in the body are well-sustained. The student discusses the authors’ perspective and also expresses his/her reflections, understandings, and analysis based on the readings reviewed.
A balanced presentation of relevant and legitimate information that supports the three questions is present and shows a thoughtful analysis of the themes proposed in the midterm.
The ideas are arranged logically to support the essay’s objective. They flow smoothly from one to another and are linked to each other. The reader can follow the line of reasoning. Sentences are well-phrased and varied in length and structure.
Conclusion. 10 points.
A clear and relevant conclusion sentence that summarizes the points made in the essay is present.
Citation and Bibliography. 5 points
Citations and bibliography are made in the appropriate format (following the APA style) for each piece of evidence given in the essay. At least two sources from the syllabus are cited. All the sources that appear in the references were the same that appear cited along with the document.
Format, grammar and spelling. 5 points
