To understand Pay Review
Learn how to Develop Reward Plans
I Participated in the Pay Review practice in my current employer. I have in also studied Reward management (5RMT). Before the unit, I had already known about rewards and the systems that guide them from schools and places of work. The organizations that work for a robust reward management system. Attending the unit has brought about a widened horizon on my understanding of reward management. The gap that needed to be filled was between the advanced studies in schools and the working knowledge that I already had. I have gained insights into how the reward principles are used by organizations. I have also gained insights into how the reward principles are implemented in organizations. I have had more knowledge on the use of reward intelligence which I will use in my work. Another issue that was shed light on was how line managers are involved in decision making when it comes to rewarding management. In what to do next, I will do a further reading as I also attend short courses on reward management and reward systems.
Learn how to develop an employee engagement strategy
To learn how to Build a reciprocal knowledge-sharing relationship
Working with senior management to highlight the engagement way studied Employee relations Couse (5DER). Before the unit, I did not have prior knowledge about the indeterminacy of employee relations. I also had scanty knowledge on employee involvement and participation and features of employment contracts which I obtained from work experience. I gained a lot from the unit. I learned about the indeterminacy of employment relations, factors impacting employment relations, and statutory trade union recognition. I am confident that that understanding of employee relations will allow me to build personal development not and knowledge about workers.

Application of skills of project management and how I solved problems within the team
Tool 1 Gantt chart
Project Scenario
As a senior HR. I was tasked to monitor a team of engineers to develop a BIM centre in our new communication centre. Our role is to examine the site structure that will be erected and come up with effective ways of how to improve it to ensure that the firm is acquiring excellent benefits. I researched the current strategies used to in BIM installation, best structures and the most effective ways of implementing it. Since am not an engineer, these data would help guide understands the wok of these group of engineers. However, the activity for this project were not well planned, timelines were not established and role were not defined well.
Application of a Gantt chart
The chart is used to show timelines, tasks and stages of delivery. Therefore, at the preliminary stage and after gathering the materials and information need we plotted the all the activities on our chart. We then allocated time lines during our brainstorming stage. On our execution stage, we allocated people’s roles against the project activities (project deliverables). Finally, we were able to determine when specific objectives a goals should be achieved thus ensuring that we stick to the stated timelines. The Gantt chart enabled us to identify potential project risks and develop strategies of mitigation to ensure that project objectives were met. Below is the gnat chard we developed for this project.
Tool 2: Fishbone diagram
I used the fishbone diagram to analyse the root cause and explain the advantages versus disadvantages of certain actions. Furthermore, we utilized the Fishbone diagram to identify problem trigger factors and counter them without derailing the project. In this project, it was crucial during general management and planning stage to collect and examine facts that were not clearly identified before. Through the use Fishbone diagrams we were able to detect the key prominent bones that are of great use to the spine thus identifying the key factors of categories. Branch managers was seen to be uncooperative, he restricted access to the site, equip, and hinders deliver of task. Negotiation team was deployed to him allow everything be conducted as planned. The project later proceeded to completion. Our project’s fishbone analysis is screenshot below:
PROBLEM-SOLVING TECHNIQUES.
-The Project
As we work towards the renovation of our law office, two of my team members were assigned to take up 1 case file, which was far from the office, they wasted a lot of time during the day to go to court. As the new H.R. Regional Manager and the head of legal, I set up a task to create a personnel inventory and found out the case was not continuous that one lawyer could handle it.
Problem Solving Method 1
Our first problem occurred within the Planning stage. Two of my team members were assigned to take up a new case file into a different role, so they were no longer available to assist with the project. This meant the original plan we had put in place would not be on track to be completed by the planned date.
I conducted a time and motion study whereby every team member went into the same meeting every morning to listen to the plans on how to deal with an examination in chief questions in court, which took up two hours of everyone’s day. From the following day, I gave one person the role of going to the meeting and to provide feedback to everyone what was relevant to the H.R. and legal department when they got back. This meant that we did not have to replace both members of the team which had left; however, we still need to replace one. I carried out the interviews internally and found a member that would fit well to the available role. Therefore, there was no need to rearrange the roles within the team for the project.
– Problem Solving Method 2
Our second problem occurred during the beginning of the execution stage when we went to purchase the materials needed to carry out the project (renovation). On the project specification, it stated that we must use a certain car to move all of the files. Our preferred rental car dealer didn’t have the particular car required. We looked elsewhere and found that the preferred car that was specified was more expensive than what we had budgeted for at the planning stage.
We carried out a cost-benefit analysis and found that it would be better value for money to go for a car rental which had the specified car to move files instead of the original plan to engage two lawyers to move the file with their car’s multiple times. Therefore, although it cost slightly more for the project, it cost less than two employees’ wages for the day and fuel costs.
III. Using Persuasion, Influence and Negotiation
Persuasion- Persuasion is the process of changing the attitude or behaviour of a person or a group towards an idea, event or another person. I managed to induce the teams to take action through careful arguments and reasoning. For instance, I persuaded the group to discard their initial suggestions to widen the scope of the project by reasoning with them on the demerits of wide scope. I used relevant examples to illustrate how broadening project scope will require more resources and time, which we did not have. I stuck to logic, praise and line argument while persuading the group.
Influence- Influence is the power to affect or impact on people in an intangible or indirect way. My influence rose mostly from the knowledge that I had gathered on recruitment strategies through competitor analysis. To enhance my influence, I communicated effectively with the team members and demonstrated knowledge of the ideas that I presented. Influence through soft skills also helped rally group members to my way of reasoning.
Negotiation-Negotiation is a conversion or dialogue between two people or parties to agree on a favourable outcome over a conflicting issue. I used negotiation a lot in the course of the project. I used negotiation to steer the group to focus on our most immediate agenda. I also listened to the various perspectives by team members and negotiated with them on the merits and demerits of each, using facts, figures and evidence. Through negotiation, we were able to compromise on most issues and co-operate to ensure project delivery within the set timeline.
