Audience Analysis
Define and Describe Your Intended Audience and Its Typical Members; Include Demographic Information
The intended audience for the scholarly article genre is professionals, students, instructors, and researchers. The demographics include broad ethnicities, age, and no gender specifics. Scholarly articles are written using primary or secondary data by experts seeking to prove or disprove a theory. The intended audience is other individuals interested in a similar field, which can range from experts to amateurs.
Identify Some Commonalities Among Group Members; What Do They Share, What Do All Or Most Members Have In Common (Experience, Political Views, Regional Identity, Education Level, Etc.)?
The commonalities among the group members are that they have an interest in the topic under consideration. Since the scholarly articles address the housing crisis in Milwaukee, the education level of the target audience is mostly college level with broad political views. The audience is interested in understanding why the city has been experiencing a housing crisis in the recent past.
Identify The Group’s Primary Values and Interests
The groups’ primary values and interests are knowledge acquisition and expansion, analysis of data and information, and literature review. Since scholarly articles use original data, the audience may be interested in reviewing the information to ascertain its accuracy. The interests are primarily academic, although some members of the audience may want to explore an issue further by analyzing original data.
Identify Some Typical or Expected Differences between Members of This Group
Some expected differences are primarily based on interest. While some members of the audience are interested in the scholarly articles for academic reasons, others have journalistic, exploratory, and analytic interests. Moreover, others are interested in articles using qualitative while others prefer quantitative studies.
What Genres (What Types Of Things) Do They Like To Read?
Scholarly articles are primarily academic in nature, and hence audiences like to read original data. Writers use original data to assess different topics, for instance, case studies, survey findings, qualitative and quantitative analysis, among other methods that provide original data to assess various topics.
What Kind Of Research (Sources) Would They Find Credible And Trustworthy; What Do They Expect You To Include Or Consult?
Scholarly sources are peer-reviewed. Being peer-reviewed means, other experts in the field have assessed their accuracy before they are published in journals. As a result, such articles are more trustworthy and credible since pitfalls like bias, overgeneralization, and others are eliminated.
What Kinds Of Rhetorical Appeals Do They Find Most And Least Persuasive?
The most persuasive rhetorical appeal is logos. Experts are interested in statistics and facts that advance a subject. However, pathos is the least effective since it appeals to emotion, which is not useful in scholarly articles.
