Definition: 1“Strategic planning involves making decisions about the organizations long-term goals and strategies”
Summary: The first article I chose to discuss reviews the seven common steps to developing and implementing a strategic plan. In addition, the article discussed the reasoning behind strategic planning. 2 Organizations use strategic planning for a vast variety of things, like growing the organizations culture, marketing, expansion, etc. Stratgic planning is really just making decisions based on the long-term affects and goals for your organization. Step one, identifyin the mission and vision statement. Step two, completing the SOAR analysis. Step three is creating a draft of the strategic plan. Step four, gathering feedback of the draft from peers or employees. Step five, revising the plan based on the feedback received. Step six, communicating and implemting the strategic plan to the organization. Lastly, step seven, monitoring the implemented plan. 3 “The strategic plan isn’t meant to be rigid, but rather a vision for the organizations future that my change as time goes on and new information about the market and stakeholders emerge.”
Discussion: Stragic planning is a crucical strategy that should be utilized across all organizations. Mainly because strategic planning is a way of looking towards the future, which has proven to provide better outcomes. The first article I mentioned discussed the steps of developing a strategic plan, while the second article discusses how public and private organizations receive different outcomes when it comes to strategic planning. In addition, this article discusses some of the negative thoughts regarding the use of strategic planning. Much like article one, the second article also discusses the different things taken into account when creating a strategic plan. 4 “Typically operationalized as an approach to strategy formulation, strategic planning includes elements such as analysis of the organzation’s mandate, mission, and values; analysis of the organiztions internal and external environment; and identification of strategic issues based on these analyses and the formulation of strategies, goals and plans to addres issues.” Although strategic planning has been proven affect, it does have it’s downfalls. For example, does strategic planning go hand-in-hand with strategic thinking? Or are the higher-ups of the company deciding what is best for the future without involving the front line staff? However, in a sense I disagree with these questions being considered down falls. Although I feel getting feedback from front-line staff is important, something like strategic planning should be left for the upper management when it comes to the creation and keeping it in line with the goals of the company long term. Then once the idea is brought to life, it should be shared for feedback and ideas throughout the organization.
Biblical Integration: I think it is important that we as Christians remember that we can find all answers through God. If we need spiritual counsel, it can be found. 5 “If any ofyou lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” In addition, we as leaders need to be an example for others, so that they too can lead others. This is regardless if you are at work, school, etc. 6 “You call me teacher and Lord, and you say well, for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one anothers fett. For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you. Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greter than his master; nor is he who is sent greater than he who is sent him. If you know these things, blessed are you if you do them.”
