SUMMATIVE ASSESSMENT BRIEF
Your summative assessment is comprised of a written report, a visual presentation and a statement supporting that visual presentation: you will submit this work in three parts via Canvas during Week 12.
Details on what to prepare are given below.
CORE RESEARCH METHODS – WRITTEN REPORT (2,500 words)
You are required to produce a written report based on the formative independent study you have been conducting throughout the Semester. Your report should be approx 2,500 words in length (as a general rule, 250 words (10%) over or under this word length will be acceptable). It will affect your grade if your report falls significantly short of, or extends significantly over, this word length.
In your report, you should aim to explain:
* how you position yourself in relation to the focus of your research, communicating your understanding of what is meant by ‘autoethnography’ with reference to key texts;
* how you have engaged in any object or material analysis with reference to any archives or sources that you have drawn upon;
* how you have a defined a site or community or user or audience in relation to the focus of your research and how you have done that – you are expected to demonstrate this with reference to appropriate examples or theories;
* how you might challenge assumptions and default positions embedded in your research by undertaking an ethical review;
* how you can extend or reimagine your research through speculative storytelling or fictioning.
Your description should take the form of a cohesive text rather than a series of answers to these questions, although it may be helpful to use these questions – or terms connected with the weekly lecture themes – to formulate headings to help you organise your text.
You are expected to evidence engagement with the course material – for example, by selecting and discussing key texts which have particular relevance for you.
You should also aim to demonstrate evidence of an independent research process by discussing sources you have found using Library resources which are relevant for your report.
