Week 4 Assignment: Final Paper Outline PBHE 527

Instructions

Select a topic and population pertinent to social and behavioral aspects to public health nationally or internationally. Explain and incorporate health behavior model(s) and/or theory/theories to develop a program that addresses the public health issue. Include recommendations for policy changes, if applicable.

Submit your outline for your research paper after you have gained approval for your paper topic via messaging your instructor (by end of Week 3).

You must include:

1) The topic: must be related directly to course material

2) Thesis statement: Your thesis is a statement (not a question or a topic) that describes what your paper will be about and provides a unique perspective (see: Purdue OWL).

3) Outline: Should have an introduction followed by 3 sections that will discuss 3 main points that defend your thesis and end with conclusions (see: Purdue OWL)

4) At least three (3) references (2 must be outside of the class readings). All must be academic* in nature and properly formatted in APA style). APA format. Refer to Purdue OWL

*A lot of students have trouble with identifying academic sources versus popular sources. Examples of popular sources include NY Times, CNN, WebMD, History Channel, and Wikipedia. These are not acceptable sources for upper level college writing.

Student exhibits a basic understanding of the intended assignment, but the thesis is not fully supported throughout the assignment. Some difficulty in seeing linkages between thoughts. While student has included a few supporting facts and statements, this has limited the quality of the assignment.

Introduction of thesis is not clearly evident, and reader must look deeper to discover the focus of the writer. Student’s writing is weak in the inclusion of supporting facts or statements.

APA format, but with several omissions and with more than 2 errors in citation. Incorporate less than 3 academic references.

Topics, concepts, and ideas are not coherently discussed or expressed in assignments. Student’s writing style is weak and needs improvement, along with numerous proofreading errors. Assignment lacks clarity, consistency, and correctness. Student needs to review and revise assignment. Several grammatical errors. APA format not used and errors throughout paper & citations. Lack of appropriate references or source materials; The paper is not of acceptable quality for graduate-level work.
