Differences and Inequalities Affecting People’s Health Status
“Health inequality” refers to the disparity in the quality of health care people get and their ability to lead a healthy lifestyle, both of which impact their overall health. In this way, health disparities might include access to treatment, quality and experience of care, such as levels of patient satisfaction, behavioural health hazards (such as smoking rates), and health outcomes. Differences, current health inequities and their influence on human health behaviour are discussed in this research.
Inequality in access and knowledge of health services
If a group has unequal access, they might face discrimination or linguistic problems in getting the services they need.
Inequality in the development of mental illness
According to research, disparities in mental illness exist across all demographic groups.
Mental illness is more common among socially marginalized populations than in the overall population. Homeless people are 14 times more likely to commit suicide than the general population, with more than 80% reporting mental health issues (Edwards et al., 2020). Depression, PTSD, and other anxiety disorders are more common among asylum seekers and refugees. Children from the bottom fifth of the income scale are more likely to suffer from malnutrition. Four times more children from the bottom fifth of the distribution will suffer from serious mental health issues than those in the top fifth.
Inequality in a variety of risk factors related to human behaviour
Behavioural health issues are more prevalent in certain regions of the globe than in others. Indicators of poverty, income, gender, and race are used to distribute risks to the most vulnerable populations. For example, 28% of the poorest individuals smoke, compared to 10% of the poorest 5% having a smoker’s disease (Leer et al., 2020). Because of this, there will always be health inequities. There’s evidence to support the idea that being a nice person matters.
