Professor: In assessing the alignment of one’s personal values with organizational values,

Professor:

In assessing the alignment of one’s personal values with organizational values, do you see a link between such alignment and one’s overall purpose?

The things that I do well and exceed at help me a lot when placed in group settings. My ability to connect with people easily helps me when I meet new people or when I am in a group. And my ability to entertain can help me win people over or cheer them up. These all help me when I enter a new situation or group. This will help me in the future no matter what path I choose. Being able to communicate is an important part of life in general.

Our values reflect our thoughts, beliefs and actions. Our values helps us to sense what is right and what is wrong for us in the process of our development. Values help us create the future we want and hence we need to consider our values when choosing our career so that they will align with our chosen company’s principles when dealing with a situation.

The dilemma arises when there is a choice between two kinds of actions one of which is right and the other one is wrong, and the two consequences from the actions one of which is good and the other one is bad. In other words, in some cases doing what is ethically right may bring negative outcome and doing what is ethically wrong many bring positive outcome. However, in ethically right cases the outcomes will most probably be for short run since ethically wrong decisions will inevitably hurt the company’s reputation in the long run since one wrong deed done today will have to be covered up by doing more wrong deeds in subsequent days. In such situation of dilemma, we need to rely on our values to inform us what path to tread on. “To decide how you can best enhance your organization’s performance, first ask what the situation requires. Based on your strengths, work style, and values, how might you make the greatest contribution to your organization’s efforts” (Drucker, 2008). I agree with the author that we should work on our strengths and values, and act according to the requirement of the situation. Our values tend to define our likes and dislikes; so doing a job that aligns with our values means that we are more likely to be content and satisfied at work.
