76-101: Problem Analysis: Body Paragraph Peer Review
Write your body paragraph and submit it to canvas.
Copy and paste your body paragraph here where your name is.
Be ready to do some peer review of your classmate’s body paragraph in class.
When you review your classmate’s body paragraph, consider the following:
Does the body paragraph:
Start with a claim about the case using key words from Bourdieu’s capital and/or the inequality texts?
Oscillate between what “I know about inequality/Bourdieu’s capital” and what “I see in the case”?
Is it clear when the sentences belong to “I know” or “I see”?
Are the “I know” moves clear, appropriate, and relevant?
Are the “I see” moves clear, appropriate and convincing?
Include “I conclude” moves about the case in between the “I know” and “I see moves” (e.g., This same situation applies to the case of X because… In the case of X…)
Stay on topic by repeating key words throughout the paragraph?
Integrate source information (e.g., quotes) using APA style?
Note on in-text citations
1. Referencing the author at the beginning of the sentence.
Acuto (2010) defines symbolic power as “……..” (p. 43).
Author + year of publication + quote with quotation marks + page number + period after the parenthetical page citation
2. Referencing author at the end of the sentence with a parenthetical citation
Symbolic power refers to “……” (Acuto, 2010, p. 43).
Introduction to the quote + quote with quotation marks + parenthetical citation including (Author, + year of publication, + page number) + period after the parenthetical citation.
Important:
Avoid starting sentences with the quote directly. Quotes need to be introduced.
Avoid finishing a paragraph with a quote. You need to show how the quote supports your claim.
Use the authors’ last name and not their first name.
Pay attention to punctuation: Where commas and periods go.
Use p. for page numbers, not page or pg.
Giving feedback to your classmate:
Make annotations on the text.
Talk through your feedback with your classmate.
Reflecting on your feedback:
After receiving the feedback from your classmate, each student should write down 1-2 action plans for improving their paragraph: “To improve my paragraph, I need to…”
