Discussion Forum: Social Class Bias?
No unread replies. No replies.
Consider the following: Discuss what you consider the most valid and legitimate points made in the segment as well as any points you feel are not valid or legitimate. Explain your reasoning. Also, consider the video segment in regards to any overall bias or social agenda you perceive. Did the segment examine the issue objectively? Do you perceive any social or political bias in the way the material is presented? If you do perceive any social or political bias in the segment (and understanding that most media productions will have some subjective points), how high is the level of bias? Why does it matter, in your opinion, and how would you change the segment to be more objective?
This exercise is meant to elicit discussion of social bias, social perception, the influence of media, as well as individual experiences and culture, and become better aware of our own attitudes and culture so that we can strive for more objective and understanding discourse in regard to social class and culture and its impact on behavior. Consider how such forces as media, for example, impact our own individual worldview and our expectations for social behavior and discourse.
