Did it begin as a latent issue that developed into a crisis?Which of the models of public relations appears to have been applied – the publicity model, public information, asymmetry, or symmetry? (Note that more than one model may have been used.) How did the crisis affect stakeholders? Identify whether various stakeholders were problematic, antagonistic, low priority, or supporter stakeholders.What theories can be applied to the situation? Pay particular attention to media theories such as spiral of silence, group and organizational theories such as groupthink and organizational culture, and rhetorical theories such as the narrative paradigm and the rhetoric of Aristotle and how they may be applied to explain whether attempts at persuasion were successful.Identify and outline crisis communication strategies used in response to the crisis. What sorts of claims were made? What sorts of tactics were used? How did the organization disseminate information to the media, and how did it address the concerns of those affected by the crisis? For guidance, look at the case study in the Crisis Communication chapter about Tata’s handling of the Mumbai terrorist attacks, which notes how remediation and rectification strategies were applied to help with image restoration in that case.Did the organization act ethically? How effective was the organization’s response to the crisis? What did the organization do well in responding to the crisis? What could the organization have done better?Each student’s paper is expected to be original work the student personally researched and wrote for this class. Most of this assignment should be written by the student, not just quoting sources. No more than 20% of a submission should match something already in the Turnitin database. If the originality report for a submission indicates more than 20% matches material already in the database, students may revise and resubmit their submission until the deadline. Cut quotations and paraphrase. Turnitin typically gives an originality report immediately for a first submission but may take 24 hours or longer to generate originality reports for subsequent submissions.The assignment is expected to be uploaded by the deadline as a double-spaced Word document. Everyone makes mistakes, but there’s a difference between a couple of mistakes and careless work full of errors, misspellings, run-on sentences, sentence fragments, or expressions that make no sense. Sloppy writing distracts from what you are trying to say and conveys that you don’t care about the quality of your work.
