Instructions
Journaling can provide a pathway for both therapists and clients to work together to achieve various positive outcomes, such as promoting personal growth, fostering well-being, and developing strategies for self-care. To continue tapping into some of the benefits of journaling, you will complete an exercise that examines the nuanced approaches to journaling while allowing you to reflect on your own personal experiences.
1. Review Part 5: Spiritual and Nature Journaling and Part 6: Journaling and Creativity in your Transformational Journaling textbook. After reading each section, select two journaling activities you could envision assigning to your clients. Please select one activity from Part 5 and one activity from Part 6.
2. Write a reflection paper on the two journaling activities you have selected. In your reflection, summarize each of your journaling activities, reflect on how these activities are connected to some of the ideas presented in this course, and discuss how therapists can use these journaling techniques to improve their work with clients.
3. To cultivate strategies for self-care, complete these journaling exercises yourself, using the “3 Journaling Prompts” that can be found at the end of each of the journaling activities you have selected. In your reflection paper, answer the questions found in the journaling prompts, completing a total of six prompts. You may also want to reflect on how the journaling activity made you feel and discuss some of the ways you think the exercise could be modified or improved.
