Key points of learning from the chosen social entrepreneur and social enterprise and how the student plans to apply these should also be highlighted.
Overview of the chosen social entrepreneur and social enterprise (10%)
A brief history of how the social entrepreneur incorporated and/or started the social enterprise, the sustainability gap and/or under-served societal, social or environmental needs the social enterprise aim to fulfil, and, the key milestones and challenges in the process of starting and developing the social enterprise must be included.
Analyse the social entrepreneur’s personality and leadership traits, social entrepreneurship and innovation motivations (15%)
Detailed analysis of what drives the social entrepreneur and what might his/her intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in this social enterprise and its cause(s) are expected to be included. These should be supported by relevant theories, concepts and academic literature.
Analyse the social enterprise (10%)
An overview of how this social enterprise is managed and how it operates should include how the social enterprise is structured, the supply and demand chains of organising, managing and delivering the product, service and value to the beneficiaries, the relationships it has with its supply and demand side stakeholders and value chain partners. Students may use Porter’s Value Chain
or Osterwalder’s Business Model Canvas to illustrate how the social enterprise is organised and how it delivers its products and services.
Identify: (1) the innovation developed and delivered by the social enterprise; and, (2) the stakeholders and beneficiaries, thereafter discuss how the innovation, product and services satisfy the needs of the stakeholders and beneficiaries (20%)
In establishing the social enterprise, the social entrepreneur would have identified a sustainability gap and/or an under-served societal, social or environmental need that the mainstream non- governmental agencies and not-for-profit charity organisations might have missed out. The social enterprise would have engineered an innovation or an innovative process to address this gap. This could be in the form of a product and/or service. Students will be required to identify this developed innovation and outline how it was developed.
Students will need to identify and list the beneficiaries of the social enterprise’s innovation, innovative process, products and/or services, and, the stakeholders of the social enterprise. Stakeholders are the people or groups of people who will be affected and impacted by the social enterprises’ activities, actions and decisions. These could include the government, special interest
groups, people and businesses in its ecosystem and value chain, supporters, volunteers, sponsors and cause partners. Some non-human stakeholders could include nature, the environment, animals, bodies of water, etc.

This should include: the social entrepreneur’s leadership style, his/her motivation factors in developing the social enterprise, how the social enterprise balances between “doing good” and “doing well”, how society, environment and the vulnerable and under-served benefit from the social enterprise’s innovation, products and/or services. Students are expected to explain why these were the key points of learning and how they feel towards these and why they are important and/or impactful.

Additional Assessment Tips
Numbering of Pages
All pages, including tables, etc. and appendices, should be numbered consecutively throughout the Business Research Project.
Section Headings and Sub-headings
It is helpful to use section headings in each chapter. The hierarchy and system of numbering chapter and section headings should be consistent.
Tables and Figures
Where these are used, they should, as far as possible, be given the same margins as a page of text and bound in the Business Research Project as near as possible to the relevant passage. Tables and figures should be numbered separately in the order of their presentation.
Referencing
The following CU APA referencing style must be used consistently throughout the Business Research Project.
When a reference is made to a book or article, the author’s surname should be given with the date of publication in brackets, e.g. Richards (2011) has expressed the view that mergers are often a high-risk venture for companies. Alternatively, the author’s name and date may be given in brackets after the reference, e.g. the view has been expressed that mergers are a high-risk
strategy for companies (Richards 2011).
Where referencing journals or newspaper articles, quote the name of the journal if the author is unknown. The date must also be shown.

At the end of the quotation, which should be indented from the main text, the author, date of publication and page reference must be given.
Abbreviations
Only recognised abbreviations should be used and each should be given in brackets, on the first occasion, e.g. Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). You may wish to provide a separate list of abbreviations.
Style
- Clear, simple language should be used.
- When an ordinary word is used in a technical or special sense, explain its meaning briefly.

- Use paragraphs as an aid to developing an argument. As a rule, paragraphs are often about one-third to half a page in length.
- The Business Research Project should normally be written in the past tense using the third person singular passive (e.g. “A questionnaire was sent to all local authority leisure departments” rather than “I sent questionnaires to……..”. Similarly avoid the use of “the author sent questionnaires …”

11pt font, Arial or Times New Roman, with 1.5 line spacing
Page Layout
The margins at the left hand edge should be not less than 40mm and other margins not less than 20mm.
