The first paragraph should introduce the topic of climate change. Why is this an important issue? What is the concern? Remember to stick to the perspective identified in the instructions. Make sure you clearly identify how utilitarianism suggests that each of us, as individuals, bear a moral obligation toward this issue. In the third paragraph, you have a choice of perspectives to apply to the issue, just as you did with utilitarianism in the previous paragraph. You need to choose either duty ethics or virtue ethics; those are the two perspectives you can choose between. Once you have chosen the perspective that you will use, show how that perspective assesses the issue of climate change. Additionally, make sure you clearly show the individual moral obligation that we bear, according to the chosen perspective.
In this fourth paragraph, you should propose a solution. What should we do—individually or collectively—to address the issue of climate change? While this does not need to be a comprehensive social policy, give some specific details about actions that should be taken. Make sure these are clearly connected to the moral assessment of the prior two paragraphs. That is, develop an action plan that can be defended on moral grounds.
In the final paragraph, you should identify two difficulties that your proposed plan might face. These might be “natural” difficulties, or they might be difficulties that are encountered because of human actions. What sorts of things would make it difficult to achieve the goal? For each of these, explain how these difficulties should be overcome (ensuring that we do so in a morally defensible manner).
