Students will be presented with clinical case demonstrations throughout the semester, and will select on one of the couples or families to use for their family intervention paper. Students will be asked to conceptualize the couple or family problem(s) from a systemic perspective and describe how a therapist would utilize relational interventions and strategies to clinically address the family’s presenting problem.
Formulation: State the problem in family systems terms. Give a systemic formulation of the presenting problem. You may refer to the identified client and other’s individual difficulties, but the formulation should be systemic, taking into account the maladaptive family patterns, themes, precipitating and maintaining factors that contribute to the problem.
