What You Need To Do:

You have been hired as a professional consultant for a show on the abuse of _______ (insert your choice of drug here)  to ensure the accuracy of the content. Your job is to create a power point presentation from which they can base a segment of their show. These are the steps you need to take to complete this job.

-Review Chapters 4 and 5

-Pick a drug commonly abused and review the information in the text on this drug (such as cocaine, heroin, or alcohol)

-Do some outside reading as well from reputable sources such as other textbooks,  scholarly journal articles (you’ll need at least 3) or reputable websites (National Institute on Drug Abuse, Center for Disease Control, etc…)

-Create an APA formatted reference page to turn in with your power point presentation. This source from our Academic Support Center explains how to create an APA formatted reference page (Links to an external site.)

1. Create a power point presentation that discusses this drug, focusing on:
   1. Why people use it (what attracts them to this particular drug? what are its intended effects?)
   2. The different ways it can be administered.
   3. How it impacts the brain (what neurotransmitters it affects and in what ways)
   4. How it impacts a developing fetus if the user is pregnant
   5. What affects its metabolism (at least 2 examples)
   6. Its half-life and how it is excreted
   7. Its short-term and long-term side effects
   8. Information on tolerance and withdrawal
2. Be sure to include in slide citations with your power point (this means, at the bottom of every slide, you should cite the sources you used for that slide, such as Hanson, Venturelli, & Fleckenstein, 2018) and to make it visually appealing with colors, graphics, etc…
3. You are not required to add audio to your presentation. However, you can add audio for extra credit.
4. I have enabled Turn it in which is a plagiarism checker. Make sure your assignment comes up as Blue or Green. If not, that means you need to work on your paraphrasing and then resubmit the assignment.
