In 800, the pope crowned Charlemagne Holy Roman Emperor and he became the first recognized European emperor since the fall of the western Roman Empire. Often recognized as “The Father of Europe,” Charlemagne successfully reestablished centralized rule and revived the economy. In 807, Charlemagne issued “Capitulare de Villis” (On Management of Estates.) This famous document was a guide for how Charlemagne wanted estates run and a social reform program for his kingdom.
