Chapter 6: Disorders of Trauma and Stress
Exposure-based treatment is the best intervention for people with PTSD. The earlier the treatment the more effective the outcomes. In the early days of treatment in vivo exposure is more effective than covert exposure. Modern day therapist are more likely to use virtual reality (VR) exposure. VR is now the standard in PTSD treatment. VR therapy is also becoming more common in treatment of other anxiety disorders and phobias.
Why do you believe that VR therapy is now the most common option over the tried and true methods of in vivo exposure and covert expose? Please support your opinion with facts from your readings and the lecture. Also, do you think that this a good shift in therapy modalities and why do you believe that?
