OVERVIEW Gardner (2016, p. xv) refers to clients of human services organisations as “people in a relationship with an organisation and its workers”. When we think about the variety of human service organisations, we recognise that we are all likely to be clients of human services organisations at some point in our lives.
In this assessment, you will have the opportunity to reflect on your personal experience as a client of a human service organisation. Reflecting on this experience will introduce you to the ways in which an organisation’s structure, culture and context can influence both client experience and professional practice.

LENGTH Duration of video and length of script: 4 – 5 minutes (equivalent to 500 words) DETAILS With the help of a fellow classmate, you will engage in a structured interview where you will reflect on your observations of a human service organisation’s context or structure or culture (choose 1) and share how it influenced your experience.

 
Use the following points to guide your structured interview:
Q1. Describe a human service organisation you have had contact with and state its objectives. Explain the reason for and nature of your contact with this organisation.
Q2. Describe what you did there, and your interactions with practitioners in the organisation. Identify one key concept (context or structure or culture) and share how you see this concept demonstrated within the organisation.
Q3.  Evaluate your overall experience of the organisation. To what extent has your experience been influenced by the context/structure/culture of the organisation?
Q4.  Propose changes to the context/structure/culture of the organisation, and elaborate on the impact these changes would have had on your experience.
 
Reminder: choose one key concept only to focus on throughout the interview. elect your focus human service organisations – not:
you must have had direct contact with the organisation. Reflect on your observations and experience of the human service organisation.
Script your response to each of the above questions in a conversational tone.
