Preliminary Introduction on FYP Literature review. Introduction: key points to consider- should

Preliminary Introduction on FYP Literature review.

Introduction:

key points to consider- should say why have we chosen this topic, explain what we are asking or questioning, why we want to do it and justify the research question.

As a national interest with a growing diversifying population of Ireland (we can look at the number of immigrants, map the female statistic and offer evidence supporting information on what the women’s experiences have been or are .

According to the Central Statistics Office (CSO) release, 20 August 2020, Population and Migration Estimates, April 2020,  from the total of the 85,400 people who immigrated to Ireland that year the non-Irish nationals from outside the EU continued to display strong migration flows, accounting for 30,400 (35.6%) of total immigrants. The high number of non-irish national migrants  appears to be a substantial one. ( use this together with our personal interest  to  justify the worthiness of the topic of research/ curiosity of that population).

Both as women who relocated our lives to the Republic of Ireland within the last six years, we decided to base our research topic on this idea of relocation, immigration, and the factors which influence occupational participation of voluntary foreign / non-national/ expatriate/ migrant women between the ages of (?) living here. We are hopeful that our experiential insights and knowledge with building our recent lives in Rep. of Ireland will help connect us with the research and offer the reader an opportunity to relate with those who chose to make their lives here. Through this research, we might highlight supports and barriers and a chance to create a specific understanding of those experiences. To better guide a conscious integrative culture towards migrant women in Ireland, strengthening a more diverse Ireland as a European member state. We also show that there exists gaps in the research. Occupation and Occupational participation needs to be defined and gived a place to sit in this work. Use the WHO 2005 definition for participation and the positive influence it has on health and wellbeing, also someone referd occupation as being directly linked to health and well being also, can you use this citations, MAry Law 2021talked about participation in occupations serving many purposes and thereby contributing to society, please use this, add more detail.

Design/methodology/approach

online databases searched to review and select the papers related to the research topic. PubMed searched multiple themes with many hits such as

The themes used to build and search the Factors  that impact on the occupational participation of foreign/ voluntary non-Irish  women or females integrating into life in the Republic of Ireland or Ireland.

Factors or influences that impact occupational participation

foreign women or females

voluntary immigrants

moving to ireland or republic of Ireland

relocating (integration) to Ireland

lived experiences or daily life experiences

needs of immigrants

JSTOR was also used with more specific wording to reflect a broader search entries to look at a more global view on what women experience when integrating into other cultures that impact directly on their occupational participation. This was reviewed as a result in smoother and more successful integration into their new countries with feelings of belonging and purpose and meaning to their daily occupations.

one paper a systematic review of working condition and occupational health among immigrants in Europe and Canada, according to this article the international labour org estimates there are 150 mil immigrant workers throughout the world. Almost half of whom are concentrated in two broad sub-regions north america and europe. This review looked at several factors that influence occupational participation of immigrant workers, this paper did not specify what number of women were involved and of the 82 studies included 5 were based in northern Ireland.

in april 2016 there was 535475 non-irish nationals living in Ireland.

The full text of each of the papers was individually analysed when screening appropriateness to the research. Two independent researchers performed the classification and coding of all the included papers.

 Findings

Though there were over  analysis of classification of specific themes in the literature, which broadly showcased ( ? number) categories; immigration policies, housing, health, employment, education  (we include all the themes that we found covered)

The findings indicated that the factors influencing occupational participation of foreign women living in Ireland were not specifically researched/documented to date. Areas of research addressing foreign/migrant integration were broad. They lacked direct application into a more personal application into lived experiences and activities of the female experiences/ perspectives and daily living. The study unveiled several other useful findings as discussed in the paper for future research to better understand the influencing factors on occupations of daily living when relocating/ integration of immigrant/foreign women into a 21st century Ireland/ European state.

Research limitations/implications

The study identified several potential avenues for future research, such as specific factors such as, common and differing aspects of adapting to life in another country, the specific needs of women in a certain age bracket with reference to roles and meaningful occupations necessary to belonging and forming meaning daily habits and occupations which inform and add to the integrative process of occupational participation upon entry and integrating into Irish culture..

Practical implications

This study may help academicians and practitioners to understand the current state of literature. Furthermore, it may impact or highlight the human rights of people and what is needed by women to thereby better facilitate a more rich and engaging integration process, to support the right application of their rights in their daily lives. The bibliography may be considered as a ready reference for contemplating future research in the area.

Originality/value

The existing literature revealed that no study so far has captured a literature review in the area of the impacts of foreign womens experiential realities of integrating into Irish culture and environments, with the focus being on what occupational participation means to them and what is required for this to take place. Thus, this could be seen as a unique and significant contribution to the literature and to add to national development on building skills and resources and pathways to better integrate foreign voluntary women into Ireland in the future.
