Sample Flow Chart / Structure Guidance – Mini Narrative
Paragraph 1 – Introduction Paragraph – 5-6 sentences, begin with attention grabber, then thesis sentence in which you state your topic & purpose. Then a few sentences to list out & preview your body paragraphs.
Paragraph 2 = Body Paragraph #1 – 8-12 sentences – first “mini-chapter” of your narrative
Paragraph 3 = Body Paragraph #2 (8-12 sentences)
Paragraph 4 = Body Paragraph #3 (8-12 sentences)
Paragraph 5 (if needed, you may not have room, cannot exceed 3 full pages typed, double-spaced)
Paragraph 6 – Conclusion (5-6 sentences) – restate thesis, wrap up your tale, maybe end with a reflection or moral to the story, lesson learned (if applicable)
*Try and use transition words and phrases to begin paragraphs and add flow to your essay, you want you reader to smoothly enjoy reading your narrative.
*AVOID brief, choppy, underdeveloped paragraphs. AVOID paragraphs that drag on too long, aim for the ranges I’ve given, they are flexible but a good guide.
