The Sun exhibits many behaviours of interest to both amateur and professional astronomers, from its apparent motion across our sky, to its sunspot cycle, to what it can teach us about the behaviour of other stars.
In Part A of this experiment, you’ll take measurements using a pinhole camera and then calculate the length of Earth’s day and the diameter of the Sun.
In Part B of the experiment, you’ll access satellite images from NASA’s Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) to study sunspot activity and calculate the rotation rate of the Sun
