1. Review and use the attached Personal Legal Writing Checklist to guide you through the major features of legal and academic writing.
2. Use Nexis Uni to find a law review article published within the past five (5) years concerning whether convicted felons should be allowed to vote. Provide its full Bluebook citation. (Attached)
3. Write a paragraph that summarizes that article’s central purpose (thesis statement) and explains how the author attempted to persuade you (the reader) about that premise. Scrutinize the value of the rhetorical strategy and perspective used in the article.
4. Write a second paragraph that also summarizes that article’s central purpose (thesis statement). But this time, apply a rhetorical strategy and a rhetorical perspective that differ from that used by the author.
5. Write a third paragraph that analyzes how changing the rhetorical strategy and the rhetorical perspective can alter the perceptions gained by the reader. Did your second paragraph agree in all respects with that used by the author? If not, why not? How might what you learned in this week’s studies affect your future writings (legluval or scholarly in nature)?
