COMMUNITY HEALTH RESOURCES & SERVICES – ALTERNATE EXPERIENCES
THIS MUST BE COMPLETED WHEN EXPERIENCING AN OUTSIDE EXPERIENCE
The purpose of this clinical experience is to assist the student in CHN to learn the various community health services available in the public and private sector to meet the needs of the population being served.
The public sector includes government at all four levels: local, state, national and international.
o Financial support is derived from local, state and federal funds, regulatory & licensing fees, taxes and levies
The private sector includes voluntary nonprofit agencies as well as proprietary and for profit agencies.
o Financial support is derived from voluntary contributions, fees, endowments and grants.
INSTRUCTIONS:
1. The CHN student will visit various public and private agencies to compare and contrast the functions of the community agencies.
Consider the following questions while completing your assignment:
2. Identify the role of the public/community health nurse within the community agency.
3. How does each agency work collaboratively to meet the needs of the population within the community?
4. Review the following questions before scheduling visits to community health agencies
A. Differentiate between Voluntary (private) and Official (government) agencies.
B. Are both these agencies effective in providing care to the general public? Explain.
C. As a community health nurse, why do you need to know community resources?
D. What role(s) does the community health nurse exercise in providing to the client and/or family in referrals to the different community resources?
E. In what way will this new knowledge influence your future practice?
F. Discuss and state your impressions of each agency visited.
