The applications of controlsystems cover a wide scope ranging from temperature control to the study of physiology ofthe human body. The benefit of automation include savings on labour, Electricity andMaterial costs, and improvements to quality, accuracy and precision. You are employed as a graduate engineer in Control and systems laboratory. You have beenasked to produce a report for the operations director on a number of aspects of this projectoutlined in the tasks that follow. You are required to advise him, how control theory can beapplied to control the dynamic behaviour of the DC motor to meet certain requirements. Avery good understanding of the principles of Automatic control is a must for a good designer. The PID controller is widely employed because it is simple, efficient and effective. The PIDgains can be designed based upon the system parameters if they can be achieved orestimated precisely. Mat Lab is often used for modelling and simulation of control systems.Task 1.0The aim of this assignment is to investigate a PID controller for a DC motor modelled in HNC/HND Engineering 4 Simulink. Create a closed-loop system by using controller block, then tune the gains of PIDcontroller using PID tuner to control the angular position of the DC motor. The motor in Fig1.0 has the following characteristics: J= 0.01 kg. , b= 0 .1 Nms, k= 0.01 Nm/A, R=1.0 ohm,L = 0.5 HFig 1.0Write a report that explains: block diagram representation of open loop and closed loop systems. use of Simulink to simplify the elements of the block diagram of closed loopsystems for the speed control of dc motors. development of the block diagram of a closed loop system for the positioncontrol of DC motor using a PID controller. analysis of the effects of each P-I-D term, individually and in combination on thecontrol system in Fig 1.0. Performing automatic tuning of PID controllers using MATLAB and Simulink toachieve the optimal PID gains and to meet the design requirements.Task 2.0 Write a report that explains:Task 2.0a. HNC/HND Engineering 5  the use of Laplace transforms to basic mechanical and electrical systems as inFig 2.0 & Fig 3.0.Fig 2.0 Fig 3.0 analysis of the behaviour and responses of systems in Figs 2.0 and 3.0.to unitstep inputs. the use of mathematical models to analyse the closed loop motor speed controlsystem. the effects of the P, I, and D parameters on the dynamic responses of thesystems in Figs 2.0 &3.0.Task 2(b) the use of Bode-plot to analyse the stability of the DC motor system in Fig 1.0and justification of the result using Routh-Hurwitz stability criterion. investigation of the step input response of a PID controllers in terms ofposition control, tracking and disturbance rejection for dc motor system inFig 1.0. Assignment has 2 tasks. Please read all tasks carefully.b. Final assignment must be submitted on time to be considered for a Distinction gradec. PLAGIARISM is considered a serious offence and will automatically lead to a FAIL Grade. Inthe event of similar/identical submissions, please note that both students will beautomatically fail the module.● To achieve a Pass, a student must have satisfied all the Pass criteria for the learning outcomes, showing coverage of the unit content and, therefore, attainment at Level 5.● To achieve a Merit, a student must have satisfied all the Merit criteria (and, therefore, the Passcriteria) through high performance in each learning outcome.● To achieve a Distinction, a student must have satisfied all the Distinction criteria (and, therefore, the Pass and Merit criteria), and these define outstanding performance across the unit as a whole
