Despite the fact that the proportion of individuals trappedin severe poverty fell by more than half between 1990 and 2015, far too manypeople continue to struggle to meet even the most basic necessities.• Around 736 million individuals lived on less than $1.90 a day in 2015, withmany lacking food, safe drinking water, and sanitation. Rapid economic growthhas brought millions of people out of poverty in countries like China and India,but development has been inconsistent. Women are increasingly probablethan men to be impoverished because they work for less money, have lessqualifications, and own less land.Action plan:• The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) represent a bold pledge to finishwhat we initiated and eradicate poverty in all of its aspects and componentsby 2030. Abusing the most susceptible, rising essential infrastructure andservices, and assisting communities impacted by violence and climatic hazardsare all part of this strategy.• Other countries, such as South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa, where 80 percentof the population lives in severe poverty, have made little progress. Climatechange, war, and food shortages have created new challenges, necessitatingyet more effort to lift billions out of misery.
