If written, let them read their expectations to theclass. 2. Online Ground Rules1 222. Online class Ground Rules 2.1) Class attendance – you should not be late for your classes and youshould not leave early. The tutor should be able to see you. Anyparticipation outside the virtual class will not be recorded as classattendance. Do not turn off your Webcam and Microphone during thesessions otherwise the tutor will record you for non-attendance. Pleasenote all sessions are recorded monitored. 2.2) Participate in the sessions – a shared learning environment is onlyeffective if everyone involved actually contribute meaningfully. Takeresponsibility for the quality of discussions. Share your viewpoint andallow others to share theirs. Do not disrupt sessions, for example byplaying music in the background. If you have children, do not allow themon the Webcam. Do not smoke during the session – this is for break time.2. Online Class Ground Rules 2.3) Dress Code – you should dress properly – a virtual classroom is aprofessional environment. 2.4) Respect diversity – the virtual classroom should be a safe space forpeople of all races, genders, ages, religions. Derogatory and sarcasticcomments are fundamentally unacceptable. Offensive language should beavoided. Do not post inappropriate material. 2.5) Criticism – although a central part of academia, must be constructive,well-meaning, and well-articulated. You should criticise ideas, but notpeople. Challenge one another but be respectful. 2.6) Medium of Communication – you should speak in English at alltimes during the session, including group discussions.3 43 3.
