The assignment should show and demonstrateoverall a reasonable awareness of the main issues in the relevant literature, present a structuredargument or critical analysis, and have appropriately cited relevant sources (i.e. importantstudies conducted in the area). If the student chooses to include figures/tables/diagrams theyshould be clearly presented (ie. for example in a format that is easy to understand andsummarises the information presented in a coherent way).Problems in the use of English language will not be penalised unless they obscure the meaningof what is being written.Thresholds80%+ (high Distinction marks). Marks in this range are appropriate for assignments that areconsistently excellent.▪ The assignment will be very clear, succinct, and very well presented throughout.▪ An excellent up-to-date awareness and understanding of the relevant literature▪ An excellent synthesis of the literature in addressing the central question showing akeen awareness of central issues▪ The essay will show an insightful critical analysis of both the evidence and keyconceptual issues, demonstrating an ability to understand the strengths and weaknessesin light of the central question▪ All sources will be appropriately cited in a consistent style▪ Overall the assignment should be similar to reading a review in a peer-reviewedscientific literature journal70-79%+ (Distinction). Marks in this range can be awarded to work that is of not quite theextremely high standard of above, but is still consistently very good throughout.▪ The assignment will be very clear, succinct, and very well presented throughout.▪ A very good awareness and understanding of the relevant literature▪ It will include a solid synthesis of the literature in addressing the central question▪ The essay will show a coherent critical analysis of evidence and conceptual issues,demonstrating an ability to understand strengths and weaknesses in light of the centralquestion▪ All sources will be appropriately cited in a consistent style2LONDON’S GLOBAL UNIVERSITY60-69+ (Merit). Marks in this range can be awarded to work that is of a high standard andindicates a good understanding of the literature used to support a well organised assignment.▪ The assignment will be clearly stated and well-presented throughout.▪ A very good awareness and understanding of the relevant literature, although the essaymay occasionally miss out or slightly misunderstand the significance of some keystudies, however this would not undermine the analysis of the central argument▪ It will include a coherent synthesis of the literature in addressing the central question▪ The essay will show a good analysis of the evidence, demonstrating an ability tounderstand the strengths and weaknesses of current evidence in light of the centralquestion.▪ All sources will be appropriately cited in a consistent style although minor errors maybe present55-59 (pass). This work shows clear potential, demonstrating reasonable awareness of thecurrent literature relevant to the central question. Some minor issues of presentation may bepresent. There may be some important studies missing or some misunderstanding of thesignificance of certain studies which weaken the argument, but most of the key evidence ispresented and understood and the main argument supported. Reasonable evidence of the abilityto critically analyse and synthesise the evidence will be evident. The assignment will becoherent, but there may be some issues with presentation or clarity. Sources will be citedalthough some omissions may be present.50-54% (low pass). This represents a satisfactory assignment which demonstrates anacceptable awareness of the current literature relevant to the central question and a centralargument supported by the cited literature. Some issues of presentation may be present thatdon’t undermine comprehensibility or readability. There may be some important studiesmissing or misunderstanding of the significance of certain studies which weaken the argument,but the main argument is supported. Critical analysis of the evidence will be evident althoughsome issues may not be fully grasped. The assignment will be coherent, but there may be someissues with presentation or clarity that make the argument hard to follow. Sources will be citedalthough some omissions may be present.Fail grades45-49%. The assignment does not satisfy the criteria for a pass, but might have been consideredfor one. The student may have omitted answering a significant part of the assignment, or notdemonstrated adequate ability to understand the central issues, key literature or over-archingconcepts.40-44%. Some attempt is made to answering some parts of the assignment but the workpresented is not considered for a pass.Below 40%. Work that is inadequate and would not have been considered for a pass. Above40% students may be able to get a “condoned pass”.
