International Foundation Programme (Business) English for Academic Purposes Level 6.3 Assessment Brief Assessment Type: Presentation and audio Assessment Task: Over recent years, many town centres and high streets have become lifeless and unattractive. This is mainly due to the closure of retail shops, but also other factors such as a lack of public investment. Choose a central street or central area near where you live and describe its current situation. Describe the area in terms of the people who go there, what there is to do, and how attractive or unattractive it is. Then develop and present a plan for the improvement of this area. Consider what should be done to improve it, how this should be done, and who should be responsible or involved in doing it. Think of economic improvements such as attracting shops or markets, social improvements such as organising public events or projects, and environmental improvements such as redesigning public spaces to make them more attractive. Presentation Instructions You should create your presentation in PowerPoint and record an audio sound file. Your presentation should be 10 minutes in length. Number of slides (excluding title slide and references): 10 Remember to include a presentation cover slide and a reference slide at the end of your presentation. You may include images or graphs as long as they are appropriate to the task. Sources You should use at least three sources for your presentation. One of these can be an article you used for your essay. Two further sources can be found in the ‘Sources’ folder on Moodle (subfolder: ‘Presentation’). Submission Instructions: Presentations must be submitted electronically to the appropriate section of the EAP Moodle module.  Your tutor will provide you with full instructions on how to upload your file. Any work that you submit must be your own and the use of sources must be referenced appropriately.  Any work that is deemed to be plagiarised or not the student’s own work will not be marked and will not count towards the final module grade.  Please refer to the section on Academic Misconduct in the EAP Module Handbook for further information. Assessment Criteria & Grading: The presentation will be assessed according to its content (logical/relevant ideas, use of appropriate research/sources and academic referencing skills), organisation (essay structure and linking of ideas) and language (grammar, vocabulary and punctuation).  Further information will be provided by your tutor. Please also refer to the assessment criteria in the ‘Assessment’ block on Moodle. The presentation grade accounts for 20% of the overall final grade for the EAP module. Deadline: Friday 23rd April 2021 at 22.00
