ASSIGNMENT BRIEF
As a part of this module assessment, you will be required to complete a portfolio of
coursework tasks.
Coursework 1
Most of module delivery is based on the ILX PRINCE2® Foundation e-learning course. While
working through this course you will be required to complete a number of activities and at
the end you will be able to attempt a PRINCE2 Foundation exam simulation as a part of
the course. This exam simulation can be attempted an unlimited number of times, but for the
purposes of your assessment (coursework 1 / CW1), your mark will be the highest mark
achieved as a part of your first 3 exam attempts. This PRINCE2 Foundation exam result will
contribute 20% towards your module mark (Table 1).
Coursework 2
The next task within your assessment portfolio will be to write a report that compares
PRINCE2 to another project management methodology or body of knowledge of your choice
(CW2; Table 1). You are free to choose any methodology/body of knowledge, but you need
to provide its key characteristics prior to the comparison. The critical analysis needs to
consider the pros and cons of each methodology and your recommendations for choosing
one over the other in a specific context(s). Your CW2 mark will contribute 70% of your module
mark.
Your comparative analysis must contain references to literature focused on PRINCE2® and
the other methodology/body of knowledge of your choice, with the emphasis on peerreviewed articles in academic journals. Hence, you will need to demonstrate skills in searching
the electronic journals, which LJMU subscribes to, and locating relevant academic papers
using key word searches. You will be expected to cite at least 15 references using Harvard
style, as per the LJMU Library Guide: https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/~/media/library/libraryskills/harvardreferencingfullguide.pdf?la=en. You can browse for these references within
2
the electronic databases, which you can access via the LJMU Library:
https://www.ljmu.ac.uk/microsites/library/resources/electronic-library
The expected word count for your full report is 2000 (+/-10%) words (excluding
acknowledgements, executive summary, list of contents, the contents of figures and tables,
references and appendices). Appendices should be kept to a minimum and include only
supplementary material; they should not include figures or tables that contain information,
which is key to the report and therefore should be in the main body of the report.
