Assignment 4: Networks
In this assignment you will make recommendations on the network your client needs to establish to support the data analytics function you are planning. 2-3 pages in APA style.
Your choices here also depend in part, on your prior choices involving the cloud (in assignment #2) and the data (assignment #3) will further influence your future choices for networks (in assignment 4).
Assume your client already has at least an internal company LAN and a connection to the internet. Will clients of the data analytics scheme need to access a website? Will they need to access the Big Data collected in assignment #3? What things are in the cloud?
The Essay (about 2 pages in APA style plus a diagram):
1. For your chosen business (the business of your client) will your prior decisions about the cloud presence require any additional internet connectivity, or is the standard path your client already had to the internet sufficient for this data analytics project?
2. Do you need super high-speed to your CSP for large data upload/download? Will this require a leased line to your CSP?
3. What networking products will be provided by your CSP?
4. If the finished product is just a report then perhaps minimal network connectivity is required. If the finished product is a stream of data then perhaps more is required. If the finished product is a real-time stream of data then more is required.
5. Will your network scheme require a DMZ to be set up? What will that look like? Does this involve a screened subnet?
6. Create a logical network diagram showing the before/after network at your client’s location. The “before” condition is your client’s network configuration at the start of this project. The “after” condition shows whatever additional connectivity is required.
7. How important is the network availability to this new data analytics scheme? If the end product is just a series of weekly reports then perhaps the availability of network connectivity is less. If the end product involves real-time connectivity to a remote database then perhaps a more extensive network upgrade is required.

I’ll be looking to see how your data gets from wherever it is found into wherever you store it. Then I’ll be looking to see how your analytics software can reach that data across your network or at your CSP. Your DFD diagram shows how that works and your WFD should show the workflow of your company that produces the final result. If you do not have sophisticated software to draw these then draw them by hand. Imbedd them directly in your essay – don’t add them as attachments.
