The purpose of the open book-open web (OBOW) assessment is to ascertain what you have learned from the course material, by applying your knowledge to answer two essay questions
Format
The format of this assignment is a take-home exam which is to be completed within a five-day period. Students are expected to work on this assignment individually, although there are no restrictions on the resources which can be accessed. While you are given five days to complete this assessment that doesn’t have to be continuous but rather may be spread over five days.
Learning Objectives being assessed:
Demonstrating an understanding of neuroanatomy and functional anatomy and its application in clinical neuropsychology
Demonstrating an understanding of neuropathological causes of neuropsychological impairment
Critically evaluate principles of neuropsychological assessment procedures
Synthesis neuroanatomy, neuropathology, and neuropsychological principles into an integrated neuropsychological assessment
In the end I’m looking for evidence that you have a good understanding of the principles of neuropsychology and how they are applied in clinical neuropsychology.
Task:
There are two COMPULSORY essay questions to answer.
The first question is theoretical in which you will be asked to discuss how a principle of neuropsychology informs clinical neuropsychology.
The second question is applied and will involve a case study. In this question you will be presented with a summary of a neuropsychological assessment (with some details missing) and there are three questions that you need to answer. The three questions that you will be asked, and the marks allocated to each are as follows:
– What other sources of information/clinical data would you collect as part of this neuropsychological assessment? (30 marks)
– Drawing on all sources of clinical data gathered in the neuropsychological assessment, describe (name of case study) neuropsychological status? (40 marks)
Discuss how you would interpret (name of case study) neuropsychological status? (30 marks)
Each essay has a word limit of 1,000 words (+/- 10%). You should provide in-text citations where appropriate and a reference list (in APA format as described in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association (7th ed), but the latter should not be counted against the word limit.
Submit your completed assignment (Essay 1 and 2) as a single document via Stream as you have done with previous assignments. Both parts (1 & 2) carry an equal weighting, that is, 22.5% of the final course mark. There may be more specific questions associated with the general essay topic. For example, in the case study essay, you may be asked specifically, what clinically hypotheses you would consider for this case. Marks will be shown alongside these specific questions to indicate the allocation of marks and to assist you in the amount of content needed to answer this question. For example, a question may be worth 10 marks out of 100 (100 marks equates to 22.5% of the final grade for each essay) which should roughly be considered as 10% of the 1000 word word count.
