How does working memory affect students’ academic behaviors?
Academic behaviors I’m thinking about influence grades, homework, participating, studying, organizing materials, ability interactions with students and teachers.
The age group- focus on primary school at this point.
Choose a topic that you have been exposed to thus far in our course or indicated in the semester and/or you think would fit under the tent of cognitive science (leaf through Ormrod’s Human Learning book if you are unsure). Then pose a question with arguably different “answers” — in the form of a problem, dilemma, perplexity or ambiguity — related to one of these topics that you would like to spend some time thinking about. The question should be one that is meaningful to you and your future educational practice.
Now, write a “think paper” that resolves (at this point in time) the question you pose; in other words, stake a claim and take a position, while at the same time exploring other relevant viewpoints (i.e., providing fair-minded counterarguments and positions).
Your paper should probably not be a descriptive report that summarizes a body of work (unless at this point it is important you do so). My experience has been that people get themselves into trouble with this assignment when they choose a topic that is too broad, too vague, or requires evidence/data/research that is beyond the scope of the time you have to think about and write this think paper or is simply not available.
The paper should be no more than 3000 words (that’s a cap not a basement) and should have as its heading the question you are addressing (phrased in question form, of course). Your paper should be a Word document
