The two content areas that I have encountered while gathering ideas for lesson planning are ELA and the arts. I’m excited to incorporate both, and I have seen students in the class who are extremely creative and always wanting to incorporate some type of picture and sketch with their writing. Some of the challenges that I encountered while gathering ideas for lesson planning are making sure that it incorporates some form of art. I have learned that incorporating ELA into class is beneficial for so many reasons. It allows students to express themselves freely and provides them with a creative outlet, and it encourages students to have varying ideas (Reading and Writing Haven, n.d). I like how one of the ideas incorporates photos, and photos can be printed out in color or in black and white. I like how the photos help students to visualize more deeply (Reading and Writing Haven, n.d). I would want to make it my own by incorporating photos and poetry as well so the both would be combined. Poetry is considered a work of art (Reading and Writing Haven, n.d). Some students may not instantly connect with poetry right away, but they can connect with photos which can help them and give them inspiration (Reading and Writing Haven, n.d). I really like the pictures because this can help ESL students as well, since pictures can provide context that students need to understand a text that may not be familiar to them (Reading and Writing Haven, n.d).
