The current asset allocation is problematic.You are the newly employed portfolio manager of this fund. Recently, the university hasdecided to review the asset allocation of the endowment fund to see if alternative investmentopportunities can be explored and non-traditional assets can be included into the portfolio.Investment Objectives and Constraints of the Fund:1. Return target:• Return should not be lower than 6% per annum.2. Risk target:• Standard deviation of the returns should be as low as possible and not be higher than12% per annum.• The fund should not have large exposure to extreme losses• The fund should not have large exposure to inflation risk. (The economic stimulusoccurring in response to the recent COVID-19 pandemic may potentially lead tosubstantial increase in global inflation over the next a few years.)3. Liquidity target:• At least 60% of the funds should be invested in liquid assets• The fund should hold at least 5% of cash.4. Specifically, you need to:• estimate expected return (p.a.) and standard deviation (p.a.) for each asset class, i.e.cash, equity, bond, direct property, listed property, hedge fund, commodity andprivate equity over short term (1 year) and medium-long term (5 years) respectively;(Bitcoin is optional)• estimate the correlation matrix of the eight asset classes, i.e. cash, equity, bond, directproperty, listed property, hedge funds, commodity, and private equity, over short term(1 year) and medium-long term (5 years); (Bitcoin is optional)• discuss the impacts of the current COVID-19 pandemic on the short term and longterm outlook of the eight asset classes;• include all the relevant analysis and/or other supporting evidence to support yourassumptions.2) Justifiable asset class selection. The report should be no longer than 3000words (excluding reference, tables and appendices). Citation and referencing shouldbe provided where necessary. Students should follow the Harvard referencing style.• Each student also needs to submit a video of the presentation of the findings in thereport. Students are not required to present their report in class and only need tosubmit a pre-recorded video of their presentation. The presentation should be nolonger than 20 minutes.• All report submissions must be made electronically to Turnitin, accompanied by acover sheet. Marks will be allocated as follows:1. Investment objectives and constraints (7%)Marks will be awarded based on how well investment objectives and constraints areembedded in analysis, discussion, arguments, and viewpoints.2. Justifiable asset class assumptions (10%)Marks will be awarded based on whether the report provides all the requiredassumptions for each asset class and how well assumptions are justified by analysis ofhistorical data, and other relevant factors and supporting evidence.3. Justifiable asset class selection (7%)Marks will be awarded based on: first, whether the report provides a justifiable assetclass selection; second, how well the asset class selection is justified by analysis ofhistorical data and other relevant factors and supporting evidence; third, how well thereport discuss and describe the due diligence required for the selected alternativeinvestment asset classes.4. Justifiable asset allocation and portfolio performance (7%)Marks will be awarded based on whether the report provides a justifiable assetallocation and how well the asset allocation and portfolio performance is justified byanalysis of historical data and other relevant factors and supporting evidence.5. Communication and writing (4%)Marks will be awarded based on how well the report communicates analysis,arguments and viewpoints and how well the report is written. Presentation video of the report (15%)Marks will be awarded based on how well the student pitch the portfolio formed intheir report including their asset class assumptions, asset class selection and portfolioallocation.
