snpg905 minor project – question case study pressure ulcer is an area of localize

Question:

Case Study

Pressure ulcer is an area of localized injury to the skin, and underlying tissue that occurs due to shear, friction, and constant pressure usually over bony prominence (Muhammad et al., 2020, p.1). Each year, 2.5 million of population in the United States are affected with pressure injuries. Over 60,000 people are expected to die from complications (Khojastehfar, Ghezeljeh, and Haghani, 2020, p. 76). Moreover, the incidence of pressure injury is increasing in health care facilities. The pressure injury rates vary depending on clinical setting, ranging from 2.2% to 23.9% in long-term care and 0 to 17% in home care (Health Research & Educational Trust, 2017). Worldwide, the burden of pressure injury is so significant that some countries have introduced penalties to minimize the occurrence of pressure injuries (Usher et al., 2018, p. 15).

In addition, nurses are taken as frontline health care worker to assess and identify the patient for pressure ulcer risk (Nie et al., 2020). Therefore, several studies have been conducted to assess and improve nurse’ knowledge of pressure injury prevention (Kaddourah, Abu-Shaheen, and Al-Tannir, 2016, p. 2).
