Title:
Growing up in a musical family, I started playing the piano at the age of three and the flute at the age of ten. My mother, who influenced my music career, was a church choir conductor and music director, so I had numerous opportunities to experience and observe the music events like choir concerts, recitals, wedding, and talent shows. I also served as a church pianist for 17 years. Those experiences had a huge impact on me and became a perspective that made me realize what I wanted to be. Most of all, I have a great passion for the music education business. I’ve been enjoying playing and teaching piano for decades and I would love to help people who want to learn piano. I have majored in Music Education at the University of Georgia from 2001-2005. And I have attended Washington State University in 2019, major in Business. Although I have strong classical background, I’ve always interested in modern music, music business, marketing, and even technology.
I have always dreamed of starting a music school business. I have a strong passion to become a music education business entrepreneur and a teacher. I’m currently employed myself working as a private piano and keyboard instructor at my home studio. As I receive quite a lot of inquiries, I also started to recruiting teachers as well. From my previous working experience at 4/4 music school in Washington, I’ve realized that majority of colleague musicians and music teachers are not familiar with areas of businesses, marketing, financing, law, and entrepreneurship. They might have great skills but don’t know how to bring the great skill to the market or music industry. I consider myself a humanitarian. I like to helping people and connect people together. Regarding music, I typically enjoy seeing music-loving people grow and develop from learning to expertise and instrumental prowess. Moreover, I believe learning music instrument does not only give you enjoyment but benefits people’s life. It improves concentration, language skills, children’s cognitive development, and creativity, and self-expression. I believe that the Berklee online courses will enable me to gain more acknowledge in music business, marketing, and management so I can play a role in connecting teachers or musicians with those in need. Moreover, from the past 15 years of work experience in education field, I gained skills like how to communicate with people, studio management, student management, marketing strategies, setting up events, and financial management. Recently, I had an opportunity to take a few classes like law, accounting, and math classes at Washington State University until I knew about this Berklee College. In law class, I was able to study in managing music licensing, copyright law, contract, and royalties.
I strongly believe that the Berklee program is a good fit for me to pursue my future goals as a successful music entrepreneur. Based on my research, I know that the Berklee courses will offer me the great opportunity to study and develop skills on areas music business, management, performance, and music technology to excel in the music industry. I also like the fact that the Berklee online program is more focused and emphasis on the music business and management areas, as well as providing productions and songwriting courses that I am interested in. With the great faculty here at Berklee College and the music business program will help me broaden my spectrum and succeed through in today’s music world. And I already know that I shall recover what I missed and gain new insights into how best to develop my music career, especially my passion for music education business. In addition, the Berklee College has always been known for experienced professionals and quality standards in the delivery of knowledge and skill. I choose the online program because I live in Seattle and have a full-time job. I also have online learning experience at Washington State University, so I understand the online learnings and know how to balance work and study.
Upon a graduation, I’ll be more acknowledged and confident in music business and hopefully be able to come up with a good business plan. I’ll be steering toward music education businesses both online and offline. One of my favorite online role model businesses is called “Playground Sessions”, co-created by music legend and Berklee College alumni Quincy Jones. It’s a piano learning app offers piano lessons online. From the previous unprecedented times, I’ve learned that online music lessons are actually working and I’m greatly interested in incorporating the online business into my career as well as offline music business. I have had a strong work ethic and will have it throughout the school years and for the rest of my life.
