Personal Statement
Healthcare is one of the most noble, respected, and indispensable professions, especially in today’s world. Choosing to be part of the healthcare profession may be one of the significant decisions one can make in his life. You would hear many stories as to what prompted such a decision, and it may start as early as the first grade, and others may have it in their later years. As for me, this decision came by the age of thirteen, but my interest in science and to be of help to others started when I was eight and I was in elementary like any other ordinary kid.
As a child, I was seen to be someone who gets curious about a lot of things. I am mostly the annoying kid that likes to ask questions as far as ‘hows’ and ‘whys.’ More than that, I am also seen as someone who is empathetic, especially with my friends and playmates, and at the same time a good communicator. As I grew up, I also learned to partner my empathy with good communication. Through middle school and high school, I’ve learned to communicate well, especially in times of discourse.
Looking back profoundly into my younger years, being a doctor seemed to have already been within me. I believe that the characteristics mentioned above are just a few of the many things someone in this profession should possess. I believe these things would come in handy in practice, especially in interacting with real patients. I believe the healthcare profession involves a constant learning process and an endless cycle of getting curious about things and finding answers to questions. I also believe empathy and great communication play a big part in practice.
My budding interest back then was also nurtured within the school. Learning specifically about dentistry made me appreciate the profession even more. Of course, as a kid, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near a dentist’s chair but learning and being exposed to the practice turned the fear into a passion.
Looking at dentistry, it seems like a simple course that involves your gums, your teeth, and the like, but as I studied it deeper, I was able to appreciate it more. Other than that, being exposed to a dental clinic where you would see the little kids and even adults entering the clinic with a big frown, and a few visits and checkups later, you would see them gaining their smiles back gives you a sense of fulfillment.
These instances and getting involved with the real world made me decide on pursuing the profession. By pursuing this profession, I would be able to be of help to those in need of my skills. It would be an honor to be able to bring some smiles, confidence, and relief to my clients. I am also planning to help the people who cannot afford the dental plans either they will get free dental plans or low-cost dental plans because there are a lot of people needing dental help but cannot afford a dental plan that is why they are suffering from tooth problems. I’d also be like a role model who wants to become a dentist, many children looking forward to becoming a dentist and helping other people. Since I want a decent career, I decided to become a dentist.
When we look at the financial return of the department, we will see that it was worth all the difficulties you went through. If you start a job in a hospital, you start with an average of nine to ten thousand. If you have the experience, you can create it if it’s an excellent salary. Of course, this depends on where you work, whether you are an expert or whether your clinique belongs to you. So, we cannot say anything about the maximum salary. Dentistry should also be compared with medicine because dentistry is mainly frequented by those who miss medical school with a fraction of a score. First, the training period is one year shorter than in medicine. While practical courses are more complex than medicine, theoretical studies are more accessible. As for the job’s financial gain, although it varies according to the branch, its earnings are not less. If we look at the working conditions, I can say that dentists work more intensively and actively, although it varies according to the branch. We also cannot compare a dentist with a doctor. Many people think they are studying in the same area, and I see many people asking a dentist a medical question, dentistry questions to a medical doctor. As I mentioned before, I am more likely a kid who always asks so many “why “s and “how “s. I’ve talked to many lawyers, doctors, etc., but the job that mesmerized me was a dentist. Since I’ve been into dentistry and dental health, I realized that it is for me, thanks to my dentist.
