Training Assignment
Introduction:
This assignment will allow you to gain additional knowledge, information and
a different perspective on a very important area in healthcare; patient safety.
We have to keep patient safety at the forefront of everything we do as healthcare
professionals. We always have to view all procedures, treatments, policies within
healthcare facilities and protocols in relation to their impact on the safety of patients. Is this treatment safe for patients? How may this procedure harm patients?
Unfortunately, patient safety errors continue to increase in healthcare settings.
We have different types of patient safety errors that occur in healthcare environments, with different terms and definitions to convey meaning. These
errors also must be documented by healthcare professionals in the workplace.
As this is a vitally important area for all healthcare professionals to be constantly
aware of during their workday, it is evident that ongoing training is required for
improvement regarding all areas of patient safety.
Instructions:
Having read chapter 7 in the required textbook, how would you develop a training
seminar for healthcare students in your area of healthcare, regarding patient
safety issues? You will be designing a training seminar for healthcare students
in your track (i.e. if you are pre-PT, then you will be developing the training seminar for physical therapy students). Specifically, how would you train healthcare students in these very important areas of patient safety? How would
you convey the seriousness of this topic to students during your training seminar?
Select five patient safety areas in your healthcare field (i.e. PT, optometry etc.)
to address in your student training seminar. Include information regarding why
each of these patient safety areas are important. Why are you addressing each area in your training seminar?
Describe and explain each patient safety area you are addressing with your
healthcare students. Also, develop two different handouts you would utilize
with the class during your training seminar. Explain how you would use each
handout during your training seminar. Each handout covers different content
to use during the training seminar.
Use double-spacing, Times New Roman font (12 point font).
Use one-inch margins.
Use university level vocabulary and grammar.
Written assignment should be free of typos, grammar and formatting errors.
Assignment will be eight pages in length (minimum). Does not include the reference page. This is your unique work (plagiarism or copying will result in a zero).
A minimum of eight professional references must be used. Professional references are peer reviewed journals, books, government websites.
References must be within the past ten years.
The textbook may not be used as a reference within the assignment.
A dictionary is not a reference.
Do not use any graphs, charts, diagrams or pictures within the body of the paper.
Use APA format for the assignment (citation of references within the body of the paper and reference list).
Include on the cover page: student name, training assignment,
date, course number (HLTH 3300).
