Global citizenship encourages self-respect and respect for others since it encourages individuals to think of themselves and others equally. Becoming a global citizen is essential because an individual will understand different people, cultures, and how certain things happen the way they are. Being a global citizen in advanced technology is an essential tool since an individual can understand the importance of meeting people and achieving goals. Being a global citizen has several outcomes since through eagerness and wanting to understand what is happening across the globe, an individual will be able to understand others. Understanding global citizenship makes an individual get the differences between globalism and globalization. Global citizenship is essential for personal and respect for others and to help promote social justice and sustainability across the globe.
Prompt 1: Distinction between Globalism and Globalization
Globalization and globalism have been explained according to personal views by different individuals across the globe. Globalization is the process of ensuring that there is economic development for people in the world. At the same time, globalism is the discussion that entails globalization in which the idea behind economic development to the people of the world is derived (Stucke, 2009). According to economists, globalization is the process of delocalization across the globe (Papastephanou, 2005). Others describe globalization as ruthless exploitation by corporations. Therefore, globalism entails globalization, and the idea is one.

Global citizenship entails interaction and respect for different people across the world. In a world full of advanced technology, becoming a global citizen increases individual success because interacting and respecting other people enables people to interact with various experiences and knowledge. In addition, being added, being a global citizen enhances the endorsement of community services, which builds the person both professionally, academically, and personally (Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013). Thus, authorization to activities and duties that build the person is attainable through becoming a global citizen.

There has been a discrepancy between theorists towards explaining what global citizenship is because of similar terms in describing the term. The influence of theorists’ disciplinary viewpoint in defining global citizenship is also among the reasons the theorists are not in agreement about what global citizenship is all about. The theorists derive global citizenship from various educational, political, theological, and development disciplines. These create confusion since the theorist cannot stand with the concept from one discipline (Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013). The confusion of theorists creates the disagreement on what global citizenship entails since there is no precise source and stand, but the information is obtained in different disciplines. Therefore, the influence of theorists’ disciplinary perceptive results in disagreement about global citizenship. Hence, global citizenship is open-minded individuals and communities open-minded individuals and communities’ socioeconomic and developmental action regarding worldwide development and growth.

Intergroup empathy
Intergroup empathy is the apprehension for the people outside an intimate group through connection and interaction between different people. Intergroup empathy is essential as a global citizen since it helps the person show concern for people across the globe irrespective of social, political, and economic status (Reysen & Katzarska-Miller, 2013). Therefore, becoming a global citizen need an individual to connect and appreciate all the people across the globe.
Environmental sustainability
Environmental sustainability is the acceptance that humans and nature are dependent on each other and responsible for protecting the natural environment. Therefore, environmental sustainability is essential for personal development as a global citizen because it teaches an individual the influence of nature and humans on protecting the environment (Papastephanou, 2005). Thus, nature and humans depend on one another for survival.

Intergroup empathy
The appreciation and felt of connection from outside individuals are some of the exciting experiences of my life I had ever felt when I visited Africa some years ago. It was interesting how South Africa welcomed me to their country and made me feel connected to them because of their love and concern. Furthermore, the hospitality from the airport to the restaurant attendants and everyone I met while I was on my vacation for three weeks made me appreciate globalization and the importance of being a global citizen in this modern world. Hence, the warm welcoming and how I fit into the people of South Africa reminded me that there is still a connection between individuals from different parts of the world.
Environmental sustainability
It is evident that humans depend on nature; there is interdependency between human beings and the environment. According to my personal experience on the influence of nature on human existence, I can attest that without trees, I could have no shelter and protection from the scorching sun. Therefore, the availability of trees in my homestead is a source of protection and shelter. Hence, I visit a forest where I stay alone thinking about life and escaping the impacts of intense sun rays.
Prompt 6: General Education Courses
History and foreign language allow students to connect cultures worldwide and expand their views on various global cultures. A foreign language influences my development of becoming a global citizen. Studying a foreign language, I can learn new linguistic skills from various languages, including Portuguese, Japanese, French, and German. Aptitude in a foreign language helps me be aware of global cultures (Papastephanou, 2005). Therefore, history has helped me develop into a global citizen since I can understand the cultures of different communities across the globe through the study of history.
Global citizenship is essential for personal and respect for others and to help promote social justice and sustainability across the globe. Understanding global citizenship requires an individual to get the differences between globalization and globalism. Global citizenship endorses an individual to community services and privileges. History and foreign languages are fundamentals of understanding global citizenships.
