Public Advocacy Research

The issue of mask mandate has generated a lot of persuasive messages in Georgia state. Even though cases of COVID-19 continue to surge in the state, Governor Brian Kemp vowed that he will never impose mask mandate or restrict public activities and restrict businesses. However, his opponents are using different persuasive methods to persuade Georgians to follow the mask regulations put in place by the national government. To research this issue, I will use several primary research strategies. One of the major strategies is interviews (Flick, 2017). I will interview selected several citizens in Georgia both the supporters and opponents of the mask mandate and collect comprehensive data for analysis. I will also interview several leaders in Georgia including Governor Brian Kemp and ask for their opinions. Interviews will be useful for my research since I will collect a large amount of information from a small sample. Nonetheless, I will gather information from sources such as media texts and official documents produced conacring the issue of mask mandate in Georgia. I will also conduct online surveys since they offer cost-effective solutions and are convenient for larger populations.

The secondary sources for supporting information will be obtained from journal articles, case studies, and books published concerning the issue of mask mandate. The most effective databases for my research include Academic Search Premier, JSTOR, Google Scholar, Advanced Library Search, ProQuest Congressional, and Journal Citation Reports (JCR). The most persuasive types of evidence are evidence from case reports, and expert opinions (Flick, 2017). Also, qualitative and descriptive research is persuasive. My research process will provide me with a series of actions and steps needed to effectively conduct my research while preparing the research design, formulating the research problem, collecting data doing extensive literature surveys, and eventually arriving at the evidence.

Among the selected theories for this research include rhetoric theory, persuasion theory, and advocacy theory. The rhetorical theory will be effective in the production and evaluation of messages. It will provide a way for considering contexts when examining different messages (Borchers & Hundley, 2018). It will also offer an effective way to foster different perspectives in the construction and evaluation of information. Persuasion theory is a theory of mass communication that deals with information aimed at changing the attitudes and perspectives of people. Persuasion theory will provide an understanding of how the people of Georgia can be persuaded to accept the mask mandate policy. Advocacy theory focuses on the principles of diversity and equality, clarity of purpose, safeguarding the public, putting the public first, and empowerment. It will provide effective approaches that can be used to effectively analyze the needs of the people of Georgia and what can be done to help them.

Among the main, these to be addressed in the essay include what the mask mandate policy entails, the importance of mask mandate, disadvantages, oppositions, and support of mask mandate in the state of Georgia, officials involved, and effective persuasive measures for ensuring mask mandate policy. Mask mandate is a policy passed by different states that require people to wear masks whether they are vaccinated or not. With the new delta variant of COVID-19 and the surge of infections, masks act as protective measures against contracting and spreading the virus. However, the mas mandate policy has met many oppositions especially Governor Brian Kemp of Georgia state. Effective persuasive strategies can be used to influence the people of Georgia to embrace the mask mandate policy including social media campaigns and many more.

In conclusion, the mask mandate issue has led to many persuasive messages in Georgia state. Despite the increasing cases of COVID-19 in the state, some state officials are significantly opposing the mask mandate policy put in place by the Federal government. Effective primary and secondary approaches can be used to research this issue. Among the most critical primary approaches to be used include interviews and online surveys. Interviews will be used on specific officials and citizens of Georgia state while online surveys will be distributed to many people within the state. The secondary approaches include the use of journal articles, books, state reports, and books published concerning the mask mandate issue. The main themes to be addressed in the essay include the policy details, importance and disadvantages of mask mandate, and effectiveness of persuasive methods to be used.
