How do the writers of the late 20th and 21st centuries contribute to this debate? In what ways do they challenge the identity definitions of their predecessors? This class offered an overview of the most significant texts in American literary tradition. After everything that we have read, how would you define what it means to be an American? Which author, in your opinion, came closest to your definition and understanding of this concept? Who has made an impact or perhaps helped you redefine what that concept means to you? In other words, how has this class changed your perspective on American culture?
