Clearing Cookies from Your Browser
Introduction
While working with our computers, we access different websites that prompt us with the pop-ups instructing us to use cookies; hence we need to allow such cookies to operate on our machines.
When cookies pop-ups appear on our machines, many computer users tend to allow such cookies access to their data without knowing the likely impact such common mistakes have on them.
Currently, cookies are employed by data-mining companies to access information about us without our knowledge. It is a breach of our safety but is legal because it is assumed that by pressing “ok” when the cookies pop-up appears on your computer screen, you give informed consent for the cookies’ generators to access your computer and information about the websites you visit. Hence, the purpose of this walk-through is to help us know how to clear cookies from our computers.
Among the risks of allowing cookies on your browser is that they can be used to track you by individuals with ill intentions.
Steps
I am working with chrome as my browser, but the steps apply to any browser.
If you have your browser on, there are three dots close to the X (close browser sign) on the far right-hand side of your desktop. Click on the three dots of your browser. Clicking on the three dots will give you a drop-down box with “NEW TAB” wording at the top and “EXIT” at the bottom; however, in the middle, there is a row named “MORE TOOLS.”
Click on the row named “MORE TOOLS.” After clicking on the row, a box appears at the side of the initial drop-down box with rows named differently. At the top of the side-box drop-down, there is a row named “SAVED PAGES AS… “and at the bottom is a row named “DEVELOPER TOOLS,” however, of importance is a row among those in the middle named “CLEAR BROWSING DATA…”
Click on the middle row named “CLEAR BROWSING DATA…” Clicking the row leads to a new tab with a drop-down box with the heading “CLEAR BROWSING DATA.” The drop-down has three critical rows named from the top as “BROWSING HISTORY,
COOKIES AND OTHER SITE DATA, AND CACHED IMAGES AND FILES.”
The three rows are marked with small white boxes. Hence, you can clear cookies on your browser by first clicking on the white box close to the row named “COOKIES AND OTHER SITE DATA. “When you click on the box, it is highlighted in blue. After highlighting the box in blue, click the “CLEAR DATA” option at the bottom of the drop- down to clear the cookies on your browser.
However, for the complete safety of your browser, before pressing on the “CLEAR DATA” option at the bottom, click on the white boxes on the rows named “BROWSING HISTORY AND CACHED IMAGES AND FILES. When you click on the boxes, they are highlighted in blue, meaning that you have selected them, then proceed to click the “CLEAR DATA” option to clear cookies on your browser, delete the browsing history, and clear cached images and files.
