Analysis Outline Possibilities (ENGL 1201)
The two possibilities I provide here are quite general, but should provide ample basic structure; they are similar in that they focus on rhetorical approaches and examples of that rhetoric, but they differ in overall function.
Essentially, the first one (“Structured by Essay”) is an outline that uses the AGTFT essays as the structural guide. This likely will work better if you plan on discussing each essay separately, and then synthesizing afterward (i.e. comparing and contrasting).
The second one (“Structured by Rhetorical Elements”) is an outline that puts the rhetorical approaches—either broadly or specifically—at the forefront. For example, if you noticed that multiple essays you have chosen use poetic verse, you could make one rhetorical section focused on poetry and discuss those essays’ use of it within that section; perhaps, then, your next section would be on structure or research or point-of-view or language…and in that section you would discuss the essays that contain that rhetorical element (or are written in opposition to it). The synthesis, then, is done within each section instead of as a section of its own.
You can see that both of these approaches contain an introduction and a conclusion, and that both lean heavily on examples. The examples should be taken from the AGTFT essays to support your claims about impact (which will likely be in your thesis statement).
I’m providing you with both a PDF of this document and an MS Word file in case you want to create your outline from these (you can replace the word “Example” with the example of your own from the AGTFT essay).
Complete as appropriate and submit according to the Working Outline assignment.
