Writing interdisciplinary in your discipline
Final Paper: Due December 13th
3-5 pages, double-spaced, 12-pt font, Word or Google Doc. Any citation style is accepted, just be sure it’s consistent throughout.
For your final paper, I want your writing to be as helpful for you in your future endeavors as possible. So, I want you to practice writing for your discipline . . . but in a way that is interdisciplinary.
Writing is, most importantly, a form of communication, and so it is important to learn to write for a wide audience and communicate your knowledge and ideas to people outside of your field.
So, for this paper, the goal will be to intertwine the skills and knowledge you’ve gained through your major, internships, career, etc., with the knowledge and ideas you’ve gained in this class.
This doesn’t need to be a full research paper, and at 3-5 pages, it won’t be. You will, however, need a strong introduction, argument, counterargument, and conclusion. You’re making the moves of a research paper without actually writing a comprehensive research paper. Be as specific as possible—so rather than give a general overview of food in your field, narrow in on something specific. You can never be too specific in your writing.
Try not to rely too much on summaries. I want to know what you found, but I really want to know what you think about your findings.
