Referencing System
The report should use the Harvard System of Referencing. The Teaching and Learning Centre at Institute of Technology,
Carlow have produced a booklet on the use of this system and all students should ensure that they have a copy and that
they adhere to the guidelines therein. The use of foreign-language source material to support a thesis or argument is
permitted. However, the onus would be on the student to provide, at the very minimum, an attested translated version of
such material in order to facilitate a reasonable evaluation. In order to avoid adding to your word count within the body of
the dissertation the translation could be added as an appendix at the back.

Plagiarism is not permitted. Material from the work of others (whether code, text, diagram or other) should be fully
acknowledged. Material based on the work of others (research, for example, phrased in your own words) should include a
reference list or bibliography in the standard format. The Institute’s official declaration on work origin must be included in
your dissertation, and signed in any printed copy of the dissertation.
