The response papers are a short analysis of parts of the text or film that you find interesting or confusing. They are not meant to be mini-essays, but rather a forum for you to engage with all or parts of the text so that you can get a better understanding. You shouldn’t write something you already had planned out in your head, and after writing you should come to know something about the text that you didn’t know prior to writing the response. The most important thing is that they are NOT SUMMARIES, but analysis papers looking at the significance of certain scenes, concepts, passages, metaphors, or motifs in relation to the whole novel or film.
