 Weight: 40%
 Type of Collaboration: Individual
Submission: The presentation is recorded using Zoom. Students share their presentation slides and
can be seen presenting their work.
Format: A video file (MP4) of between 4-6mins duration, where both the speaker and the slides
 are visible on the recording.
Please ignore the note about 1500 words, this is for university purposes only. You do
NOT need to submit speech notes, only a video (not just audio) recording.
 Length: 1,500 words
 Curriculum Mode: Presentation
You are asked to deliver a presentation at a team meeting about one of the families you are working with. Your team
is made up of multidisciplinary practitioners and your manager.
  Based on the case study below, describe in detail;
Slide#1 – At least two (2) barriers you can identify from the case study AND what challenges they present
you with as a practitioner working with this family? Use an ecological perspective (use the details of the
family (micro) and the broader issues in child protection work (macro)).
Slide#2 -One strategy to protect one child/ren.
Slide#3 -One strategy that meets their participation rights.

 Case Study
Five children from the one family come into care. The children have the same mother but two different
fathers. They are aged 3, 4, 6, 8 and 14. There are concerns that the 4 and 6 years olds may have suffered
neurological damage associated with foetal alcohol syndrome. Practitioners were asked to intervene in the
family and remove the children, on the basis of long-term neglect of the children and emotional abuse they
were experiencing due to an escalation of the domestic violence the mother was subject to, and to which
the children were witnessing. There also tend to be a number of male visitors on whom the mother relies
for financial assistance, even though some of them are abusive to her.
The children are placed initially, while decisions are being made about their longer-term care, with two
different families, the three youngest with one family and the older children with another. The younger
children are with kin carers, and the two oldest with a foster carer in the city. They are confused about
what is happening to them, the 4-year old wants to be with the 14year old and the two other young children
want to be with the 8 year old. Most of all, all except the oldest want to be with their mother.
 11
Two different agencies are involved with the temporary placement of these children.
 Make sure you
List the two (2) issues and what challenges they present to you as a practitioner e.g. children have
foetal alcohol syndrome which means I need to…
Choose one of the issues and describe in detail how you would go about protecting the children from
the risk of harm presented by that issue.
Develop an argument for your strategy i.e. use literature and other evidence to say why your strategy
protects the child/ren. You should use 1-2 references including peer-reviewed sources to support your
work. Put these references on the slides where they are used.
Describe in detail how you will make sure child/ren are involved in decision making processes. You
should use 1-2 references to support your work here too. Put these references on the slides where
 they are used.
It is suggested you use a minimum of 3 slides and maximum of 5 slides (include any references on
your slides, NOT a separate reference slide)
